چکیده

The typical large specific surface area and high reactivity of nanostructured porous silicon (nanoPS) make this material very suitable for the development of sensors. Moreover, its biocompatibility and biodegradability opens the way to the development of biosensors. As such, in this work the use of nanoPS in the field of electrical biosensing is explored. More specifically, nanoPS-based devices with Al/nanoPS/Al and AuNiCr/nanoPS/Au-NiCr structures were fabricated for the electrical detection of glucose and Escherichia Coli bacteria at different concentrations. The experimental results show that the current-voltage characteristics of these symmetric metal/nanoPS/metal structures strongly depend on the presence/absence and concentration of species immobilized on the surface.

Surface Functionalization of Nanostructured Porous Silicon by APTS: Toward the Fabrication of Electrical Biosensors of Bacterium Escherichia coli

Nanostructured porous silicon (nanoPS) basically consists in a network of silicon nanocrystals with high specific surface. Its intrinsic high surface reactivity makes nanoPS a very suitable material for the development of biosensors. In this work, the surface of nanoPS was functionalized by the use of (3-aminopropyl)triethoxysilane solutions in toluene. Escherichia coli (E. coli) antibodies wer...

DNA Optical Detection Based on Porous Silicon Technology: from Biosensors to Biochips

A photochemical functionalization process which passivates the porous silicon surface of optical biosensors has been optimized as a function of the thickness and the porosity of the devices. The surface modification has been characterized by contact angle measurements. Fluorescence measurements have been used to investigate the stability of the DNA single strands bound to the nanostructured mat...

Biosensing using Porous Silicon Photonic Bandgap Structures

Photonic bandgap (PBG) structures have remarkable optical properties that can be exploited for biosensing applications. We describe the fabrication of 1-D PBG biosensors using porous silicon. The optical properties of porous silicon PBGs are sensitive to small changes of refractive index in the porous layers, which makes them a good sensing platform capable of detecting binding of the target mo...

Development of Fluorescent FRET Probes for “Off-On” Detection of L-Cysteine Based on Gold Nanoparticles and Porous Silicon Nanoparticles in Ethanol Solution

A new type of fluorescence "off-on" probe was designed for L-Cysteine (L-Cys) based on the fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) between negatively charged amino-capped porous silicon nanoparticles (SiNPs) and positively charged citrate-stabilized Au nanoparticles (AuNPs). In this proposed FRET immunosensor, novel water-soluble amino-conjugated porous SiNPs in ethanol with excellent pho...

Influence of Biomolecule Size on Performance of Nanostructured Sensing Devices

Porous silicon is an excellent material for biosensing because of its large surface area and ability to filter out large contaminant species. In order to characterize the sensitivity of porous silicon based biosensors for biomolecules of different sizes, a mesoporous silicon waveguide with average pore diameter of 20 nm is used to detect single strand DNA oligos with different numbers of base p...
